Sacramento State Announces New Sustainability Initiatives for 2026

Sacramento State has unveiled new sustainability initiatives aimed at enhancing campus environmental efforts for the upcoming year. These initiatives are designed to reduce the university’s carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices among students and faculty.

The initiatives will kick off in January 2026 and include comprehensive recycling programs, energy conservation measures, and the introduction of green spaces across campus. University officials expect the programs to involve both academic and extracurricular components, encouraging widespread participation.

Sacramento State’s Office of Sustainability is leading these efforts, working in consultation with various departments and student organizations. They have committed to achieving specific sustainability goals by 2030, building on previous programs that have already seen success in waste reduction and energy efficiency.

These new measures follow past initiatives that have included solar panel installations and sustainability-focused courses. The university aims to foster a culture of environmental stewardship, aligning with broader goals of the state of California.

Students and faculty interested in participating or learning more about these initiatives are encouraged to attend an informational session on December 15, 2025, from 5 PM to 6 PM at the Student Union. Further details can also be found on the university’s sustainability webpage.
